It’s not often that I find a book I am willing to recommend to others as a must read. But for those moments when I do, I really want to go out of my way to recommend them to fellow bookworms who may be in need of something new to read. My choices always come those books that receive four or five stars from the month prior. For the past few weeks, you guys have been voting for which book should be featured. There were a lot of fantastic books up for this feature and there were so many of you who clearly loved several of them. I’m pleased to share that this month’s featured book is Toto’s Tale and True Chronicle of Oz by Sylvia Patience.

I’ve been a fan of The Wizard of Oz since I was a young child. Though I remember checking out the books from the library while in the second grade, I’m not sure I ever actually read the books. So for me, this was a new and interesting twist on an age old tale, one I’m sure mirrors the original story far more than the movie and play I am more familiar with.
I can completely see my son enjoying this book. In fact, I may even make this our bedtime story and see what he thinks. But he’s nine and I feel a child of that age would not only be able to enjoy the experience of Oz, but they can better appreciate Toto’s point of view. Especially in regards to Toto’s constant frustration at not being heard (because he’s a normal dog and can’t speak). Children can relate to this feeling and I think they would greatly enjoy the idea of him running around marking his territory…. Read More
Trust me when I say, if you are looking for something to enjoy with your little ones, than this is the book for you. It’s a great twist on an old classic and it provides an entertaining journey that your children will love.
