An elderly man in the remote Canadian tundra keels over dead – mysteriously seized by a heart attack. Another man in downtown Toronto, steps in front of a car, killing him instantly and before he can deliver his critical package. Two remote deaths, a continent apart, and yet connected in a plot which could change the face of the world. Keeno McCole, head of Canada’s special crime-fighting task-force, and his team, takes on an elusive enemy from within the nation, and are vaulted on an international chase which takes them across the globe as they race to prevent the deaths of tens of thousands, and moreover, to stop the spread of the malicious God-Chip, a microchip implant which alone could change our very way of life.
When it comes to an action-packed thriller, you need a strong lead character who is willing to put his own life on the line for the greater good. Fortunately Intrusion features just the right character to fill this role. Keeno McCole is more than just a wanna be James Bond, he’s intelligent, strategic and a physical force to be reckoned with.
After a briefcase full of virus is found on a dead man, Keeno and his best friend, Jake take it upon themselves to track down the people responsible for a bio-terrorism attempt on the people of Toronto. But what they don’t realize is an even bigger plot is at play and the stakes are deadlier than ever.
There was a nice balance of action and plot to keep the pacing up, making it a smooth, fun read. As an action thriller, this book stands out as an extraordinary example of how and why heroes like James Bond are still entertaining characters after so many years. Keeno is the perfect example of a great lead character who’s far from perfect. It’s these little imperfections in his personality that made him such an enjoyable character to read. But what I enjoyed most about him was his backstory. It was nice to see his backstory unfold a little and to get that insight to how and why he is the way he is before delving into the story at hand.
If you are a fan of action-packed thrillers, then I highly recommend this book for you. Keeno and his team at the RCMP are the front line of defense to all threats within Canada. But you are missing out if you’re not checking this amazing series out, right now.
