Blogging Resolutions for 2018

Last year wasn’t the best blogging or reviewing year for me.  Thanks to my busy school/work schedules, I basically dropped everything on my blog for most of the year.  As I’ve come back, I’ve realized that things have changed around our blogiverse.  Several of the weekly blogging memes I participated in have disappeared.  I have no clue what books are relevant or going to be the most anticipated.  Granted, my knowledge of that was always skewed since I’m someone who chooses books by their covers or sticking to familiar authors.

I want things to be a bit different this year.  I love to read and I want to be able to enjoy a lot of non-school related books this year.  However, I am embarking on my final semester of graduate school and I realize that I need to dedicate time and effort to graduating and maintaining my GPA.  Despite how many times everyone tells me a 4.0 doesn’t matter at the graduate level, I’ve pushed through my program quicker than anyone else and I still have my 4.0 GPA.  It’s important to me.

Realizing this, my goal for this year is to read at least 52 books.  That’s one book a week and is a goal I can easily achieve, even if I need to miss a few weeks for school.  Along with that goal, I’m going to finish reading and reviewing old Netgalley ARCs.  I’ve already made a dent over the holidays and I refuse to move on completely until all of them are finished.

As for blogging, I realize that I don’t just want to do book blitzes, blog tours, or cover reveals.  The reason I liked doing a daily meme is because it allowed me to blog and express myself.  My goal is to create more blog posts that aren’t just a review or promotional post of some kind.  This is not always the easiest thing to do, but I’m determined to make it happen.

As of right now, I’m not participating in any reading challenges for the year.  Perhaps I can join one or two of the month-long challenges once I get accustomed to my new schedule.  But for now, I feel that would just add a burden that I don’t really need at the moment.

As for my last goal, I’m going to try to make an effort to visit one blog a week.  I’ve never really been great at viewing other people’s blogs.  I just never seemed to have enough time.  But I’m going to make the effort.  A lot of you post amazing reviews or interesting posts and I’m tired of missing out on your awesomeness.  I’ll make it an effort to use my email notifications and WordPress reader to expand who I visit.  Hopefully, I’ll keep this goal and make it work.

So what are you goals/resolutions for the upcoming year?

  1. I’m setting my Goodreads goal at 50 books this year, but I think I might bump it back to 52. We’ll see. My big focus for the year is to clean up my NetGalley. I’m doing a few BINGOs strictly for fun. Karen @ Kissin Blue Karen is bringing back Beyond the Books. It is really fun and easy. You can find the January and February prompts already on her blog. I am also really bad about branching out. I stick pretty strictly to visiting and commenting on Sunday Posts, Top Ten Tuesday, WWW Wednedays, and My Favorite. Every so often I will get around to my other Tuesday post or Book Blogger. I’m bad about not branching out and finding new blogs, but right now I’ve got more than I can handle. I feel bad that I don’t read or comment on reviews, though. I do what I can in the time I have. Good luck!
