It’s been a few weeks since I last posted this weekly meme. I actually picked up several movies and books last week, but I never got around to posting about them. As anyone who has read my blog before may realize, sometimes my reading takes on a theme. When I watched Everest, I began reading and researching everything I could about it. In lieu of September 11, I wanted to once again research the events that led up to the day my world change. I wasn’t there that day and as far as I know, I don’t know anyone who knows anyone who was. But I remember sitting in my living watching as everything unfolded and feeling an utter sense of helplessness. I’ve researched the events from that day over the years, but I found myself drawn to look for more answers and stories. I even wanted to attend a local event about the release of Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog and the Triumph of Trust by Michael Hingson. He was a survivor whose guide dog helped guide him from the 78th floor of the World Trade Center to safety. I, unfortunately, could not miss class and did not get to attend the event. I can only hope I can attend another event for him.
Here’s what I checked out this week and last:
- A Decade of Hope by Dennis Smith
- The Greatest Ever Sold: The Decline and Fall of Truth by Frank Rich
- Called by Lisa Jefferson and Felicia Middlebrooks
- Working Stiff: Two Years, 262 Bodies, and the Making of a Medical Examiner by Judy Melinek, M.D. and T.J. Mitchell
- Gaining Ground by Forrest Pritchard
What did you pick up from the library this week? Or what are you planning on putting on hold? Leave me a comment and let me know!
