Sunday Post #23 – Valentine’s Day, What?

Sunday Post Meme

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, post a recap for the week before, showcase books and things we have received, etc.

Happy Valentine’s Day! If you are anything like me, you either completely despise this holiday or don’t care one way or another for it. For me, I make it a day for my son and I. For the last few years, we’ve had a “date night” and we eat at Red Robin before going to see whatever children’s movie is playing. Last year was particularly difficult because I had been up for 36 hours straight because of work and had to try to stay awake during Spongebob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water. Sadly, there were no new children releases this year. Yes, they have Kung Fu Panda 3 playing, but neither my son nor I are interested in seeing that one. Fortunately, our cheap theater is playing the latest Alvin and the Chipmunk movie and The Good Dinosaur. I’m not sure which one we will see, but I suppose it just depends on what time we get done with Red Robin.

I got to attend my first ever book club meeting this week. It was interesting to talk to a group about a specific book. Typically if I’m talking to someone about a book, it’s not someone who is much of a reader, let alone had actually read the same book. There seems to be a great group of women who attend this book club and I’m really excited to attend next month. I almost wish we could meet more often. But let’s face it. As far behind as I am in my reviews, I really don’t need something else keeping me from my books.

We finally got some real snow fall! I’m a huge fan of snow, even if I rarely go outside to play in it. But I learned my lesson last night. After fighting with sinus migraines all day, I realized I was super hungry and still needed to fill up my SUV, so I decided to go on a Taco Bell run. It was only ten at night, but all in all, it normally would have taken twenty minutes. Instead we didn’t get home until almost 11:30. The snow was coming down harder than I realized and the road I was on had not been plowed at all. Add to that, my son literally yelling at me for driving to slow while I’m struggling to see in complete white out and my nerves were shocked. Even worse, by the time we got home with our food, I was no longer hungry. No more late night drives in the snow for this gal. I’ve learned my lesson.

Hope you are all having a great a week!

All book covers are linked to my personal review of the book or it’s Goodreads or Amazon page.

What to Expect

I’m keeping things light this week. I’m sure I’ll probably grab a few things that aren’t listed here, but here’s my (general) upcoming TBR list in no particular order:

Lana's Calling No Cats Allowed Night Games Stars Above

Silent Dawn Chasing Sunrise

Library LootThis week’s loot includes the next book for my local book club. I was actually kind of excited when I saw the title, it’s been on my to be read list for awhile. But as I was checking out the book, the librarian said it wasn’t as good as you would think. This kind of ruined my hopes for having a good book. However, I know how different people can view the same thing in different ways…. Read more: Checking Out the Library

I finally gave in and requested one new book this week. To be fair, I read the first book of the series in December and when I saw book two was available, I couldn’t resist it. Considering it’s been several weeks since the last time I even requested a book, I think I’m still doing pretty good about moving closer to that 80% mark on Netgalley! I’m currently at 70%!

Stacking the ShelvesSo… I may have gotten my tax return and decided to treat myself to some books! I know I don’t need more books, but I figured it was nice to have one splurge after such a hard couple of months. In total I ordered 20 books! Needless to say, it will probably be awhile before I order more, unless I start getting back into doing all of my surveys to earn more Amazon giftcards.

  1. I don’t really care either way about valentine’s day. We usually buy a gift for the other or do something extra, but besides that it is just a normal day. I hope you and your son enjoy your dinner and movie!
And that’s so exictign you found a book club! It can be hard to find another person who read the same book to talk about it with. A book club sounds like fun. I hope you’ll have a great week!

  2. My husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day. It’s kind of a waste of money and time. But we do hang out & be lazy! Also, a book club sounds like a lot of fun 🙂 I want to join one that isn’t virtual! haha

  3. Dinner date! Thinking back on the three years I was engaged, we didn’t do anything really for Valentine’s day either. However, I tried and received the “meh.” Forget him…like he forgot some of those rules of committed relationship. Siagnora!

The man and I went to this new Irish restaurant downtown and I could not stop uttering over and over, “This is so good.” And then the dessert!

    • LMAO! My son and I enjoy Red Robin because it’s one of the few places we both enjoy. He’s so darn picky and though I don’t always want a burger, I make it work every Valentine’s Day. I’m proud to say this is the first year I didn’t fall asleep during the movie!
