Top Ten Tuesday #17: 2016 Reading Goals

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Today’s theme is supposed to be the top ten resolutions for 2016. I’ve never been a fan of resolutions, so I’m going to just post my reading goals for the year.

1. Get 80% on Netgalley

Anyone who is on Netgalley knows what I’m referring to. This is the percentage of books you’ve been approved for vs the percentage of books you’ve reviewed. Now that I’ve discovered that as long as you’ve already sent the book to your Kindle you can still put in your review after the archive date, this will be a much easier task to complete.

2. Complete my challenges

Currently I am working on five challenges. None have me scouring the web to find books whose author’s name has the same initials as me or anything crazy like that. To me they are easier to achieve if they just have to meet a specific goal, such as being a new release or being a dystopian.

Here’s the challenges I’m currently doing:

COYER (Clean Out Your E-Reader): 7 of 20

2016 New Releases Challenge: 0 of ?

2016 It’s New to Me Series Starter Challenge: 0 of ?

2016 Dystopian Challenge: 1 of ?

2016 Horror Challenge: 1 of ?

Goodreads Reading Challenge: 6 of 100

3. Read Game of Thrones

I have tried reading this book several times and I always wind up just skipping through to my favorite character’s parts. So my goal is to get through the entire book this year. NO SKIPPING

4. Finish the House of Night series

I’ve had the final book to this series since it came out, but I have yet to read it. The problem was I couldn’t remember exactly what had happened in the last few books. So last year, I started working on rereading the entire series. I’m currently on book 10 of the 13. So my goal is to finish this reread so I can finish the final book.

5. Childhood Reread

I have no delusions of being able to read every book in my list of childhood series that I loved. There are far too many of them and it cost money to buy the books. But I plan on continuing to get through the series I’ve been working on and start reading some of the ones I haven’t gotten to, yet.

6. Read More Books

Yes, my Goodreads challenge says I’m aiming for 100 books. That’s because you never know what is going to happen throughout the year. I figured it was best to aim low. So 100 is more than my goal of 75. But after I reach that goal, I hope to move toward beating my total of 189 books last year.

Anyways, that’s all I have for today folks! Leave me a link to your Top Ten in the comments below. I can’t wait to see what wishes you’ve come up with.

  2. I also want to get to 80% on netgalley. I’m almost there! Good Luck! 😀

    My TTT! 😀

  3. Netgalley is on my list too! It’s way too easy to keep requesting books….

  4. I love rereading old favourites, it’s interesting to see how your tastes change and the way you interpret things change. And sometimes it just feels like seeing old friends again. 🙂

  5. Ooh nice! I haven’t had time for re-reads in so many years now! It saddens me, yet I tell myself I have a slew of new books to read that I am sure to love! And about 97% of the time I do! LOL! Good luck this year!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • Thanks! I kind of enjoy my rereads. they help keep me from being burned out. But in the case of House of Night, I needed to do it because I don’t remember the last couple of books.

  6. Childhood rereads sounds so fun! I would love that. I need to seriously upshoot my Netgalley rating. It’s ridiculously pitiful and they all scream in my face that I must be crazy when they see my numbers. Why can’t this be like foster adoptions? 😀

  7. Ah, skipping in Game of Thrones is so tempting. I do KIND OF skim through Bran’s chapters because I dislike him so much. Whoops! I’m starting A Storm of Swords now!

    • I despise a lot of the characters. I don’t know why, but if they just wrote about Daenerys and Tyrion, I’d be hooked. When Mama Stark talks about her monthly during the beginning of Game of Thrones, I was really put off and it didn’t get much better from there.

  8. My goal for this year is to get to 70% on netgalley, but I feel like I am going in the wrong direction, just went from 69% to 65% in the past few weeks due to requesting new books.
I am also part of coyer, I am doing pretty good so far, although I am readign a non-coyer book at the moment as well.
I didn’t realize the House of Night series has gottne that long as I stopped at 6 books. It nice you are reading the whole series and find out how it ends, even though I feel like the first few books where the best.
Good luck with all your goals!

    • I know what you mean about Netgalley! I had a book I requested over a month ago get approved and my percentage went from 59% to 57%. I was not a happy bookworm when I saw it. I’m bouncing back and forth with the coyer books. I read more than enough to meet my goal and I have way too many library books piling up on me.
