The New Year is just around the corner and I have been trying to figure out what my goals for this blog are for next year. Just in the past month, I created my own instagram account and today I bought the domain thewritersinkwell.com. There’s a lot of things I want to achieve in the next year and though I haven’t quite figured out everything, I know that starting with a short list of goals will help me move in the right direction.
For those of you who don’t know much about me or my story here, I’ve had this blog for several years. Initially it was meant as a place where I could just just express myself. I’m a bit of a crafty person and I wanted to eventually get into jewelry making. Well, that never went anywhere. I moved across the country and eventually this blog laid forgotten… until last January.
That’s when I decided to start posting my reviews on my blog. One of the reasons this blog had gone to the wayside is that I had other blogs that I worked on actively for my role play. But now, as I have moved away from that, I wanted something to start again. Sporadically, I would post my reviews from Goodreads over here. But I was overwhelmed with work and everything, even my working out schedule started to become a distant memory for me. So after months of only lazily posting my reviews, I decided in September that I needed something outside of work to focus on. For too long I’ve made the focus of my life work and raising my son. I needed something that was just mine and that’s what I’ve been doing ever since.
So here’s my goals for next year:
Posts: Even though I’m blogging because I enjoy it, I haven’t been able to move past doing reviews and memes. Next year, I want to move into doing blog posts that aren’t completely about reviews. While I am also going to be doing different types of reviews, I have several ideas about non-review posts that I want to do. Hopefully I’ll start working on some of these right after the New Year.
Blog Growth: While I enjoy blogging and it’s something I do for fun, I really enjoy the prospect of connecting with other bloggers, bookworms and authors. Only way to continue meeting more fabulous people is to keep growing my blog. Am I going to obsess about it? Nope, not at all. This is still something I do for fun and the only thing I want to improve is the quality of content/reviews that I provide.
Writing: I have mentioned this before, but I have always been a huge fan of writing. For years, I wrote fan fiction and my own story lines for my role play. As fun as that is, it’s never been entirely what I have been interested in doing. Truth is, I want to write my own books and I have had several ideas over the years. But I can never seem to find the time to do it or when I do, I never am in the right mood. So instead of waiting around for the right time and place, I’m going to start dedicating a certain amount of time to my writing. I have the inspiration, so there’s no reason I can’t use this year to work on creating my first book.
Freelance Work: One of the biggest things that has been holding me back from my dreams of writing, has always been the inability to have a job where my work/life balance is at least decent. As much as I love the place I work for, I eventually want to have a job doing what I like. So in order to do that, I want to get back into doing freelance work. I have several years of experience in this and have even worked for an advertising agency in the past, so there’s no reason I can’t find a way to make it work. It will take some hard work, dedication and time, but I will find a way.
These are just some of the things I have been working on and I’m excited to see what 2016 holds in store for me. There are some great books coming out next year, so it already looks like it’s going to be a promising year for us bookworms. Hopefully everything else falls into place.
