Reading Habits Tag

Reading HabitsI found this tag on Dual Reads over the weekend and I thought it would be a fun little tag to do. I won’t tag anyone, but if you like the tag, please feel free to use it for yourself and leave me a link in the comments so I can read it!

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I actually don’t have a particular spot in my house where I read. I tend to move around a lot while reading. I’ll read at my desk, in bed, in the tub, while on the bike or elliptical.. Heck, I’ve even been known to read while doing dishes or cooking. I just have to be careful while doing so.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

It really depends on if I can actually find one of my bookmarks. I have a bad habit of leaving them in books. So then I find myself looking for something and I will grab whatever works. Receipts, hair ties, even the papers of a straw to mark my place until I can find one.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a certain chapter/a certain number of pages?

I don’t have a set stopping point, but I don’t enjoy stopping in the middle of a chapter. It bugs me, so no matter how tired I am, I will force myself to keep going until the chapter is over.

Do you eat or drink while reading?

Yes. One of my favorite things to do is to go out to eat by myself with nothing more than my book in tow.

Multitasking: music or TV while reading?

I have no problem reading when there is music playing or the TV is on. The only time I find it hard to concentrate is when I’m sitting with co-workers during breaks. If I’m really determined to get some reading done during that time, I will put in my earbuds and blast music so I can block out their conversations.

One book at a time or several at once?

I typically read one book at a time. But if you look at my Goodreads it looks like that’s not true. I don’t like posting my reviews on Goodreads until the review has been posted on my blog, so I will leave books pending until those posts go up the next day. Also, if a book has short stories in it, I will use it as a way to break up the monotony of reading book after book after book. After all, sometimes you just something short and sweet to read, right?

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

I enjoy reading out loud to my son. He’s not a bookworm like I was as a child, so it’s one of the only times I can get him to sit and focus on a book. But when it’s a book for me, I read silently in my head.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I can’t stand the idea of breaking a spine. I try my best to keep my books in pristine condition.

Do you write in your books?

Heck no. I use to as a child. I would play “school” and use my books as the school books. I had to put the names of the student in each of their books. But I haven’t done that in a very, very long time.
