As a bookworm, I’ve read countless books over the years. Some of which I can recall in great detail and others I can vaguely remember the basic plot of. Heck, there are books and even series of books that I can’t recall the name of. As I was going through my Goodreads account the other day, I was sad to see the number of read books only amounting to 170-ish. Of course, one of the main reasons for this is, I have refused to put in books I have read before. Even series I am currently reading, have previous books not listed as read.
Then again, as I was reading the latest Alex Cross book, Hope to Die, I found I couldn’t recall what events had happened in the previous book and which had occurred in earlier books. This was both frustrating and tiring, as it was imperative to understand since the book before had events that led up to this one.
So after much consideration, I’ve decided that any active series that have new books will need to be reread. For example, the final book of the House of Night series was released a few months ago and I have yet to read it for the very same reason I struggled with Hope to Die. My goal for this year is to read a previously read book, in between each newly read book this year. I understand this to be a daunting task. But it will serve to help me in not only being able to completely evaluate certain series, but to also give me the fresh look I need to adequately review these books.
I’ve already started this project by rereading the first book of the House of Night series, Marked and will hopefully be able to not only finish the series, but also have a review for the series as a whole, instead of struggling to recall what I like and disliked from all of the books. Besides, if anything, I’ve proven to always be glutton for punishment and this particular series, will be hard to muster through. But I’m up for the challenge.
